We teach your classes. We work in your labs. We contribute valuable research to projects across the university. We are the academic workers of NJIT, and we deserve to be treated as the professionals we are.

Our work is, in all essential respects, the same as that of our full-time faculty colleagues. Indeed, we take pride in offering first-rate undergraduate instruction and research skills. We take pride in an institution that stands for excellence, and we know that the quality and prestige of NJIT depends on our working, not as second-class teachers and technicians, but as fully qualified professional academics.

Yet too often the university fails to acknowledge the importance of our contributions and the dignity of our work. It is time we have a say in the terms of our employment. It is time we have a voice into salary determinations, workloads, and benefits appropriate to our positions. For too long, every aspect of our work has been subject to unilateral decision-making and arbitrary alterations.

Together, we are committed to advancing the academic mission of this university. We know that improving conditions for academic workers will attract the best and the brightest minds, and we believe that an institution at this level should live by the highest standards of fairness and justice in treating with its workers. We demand fairness, for ourselves and for those who follow us. And there is only one way to ensure it: we need to form a union.
